It was “fitting” that our Chief Creative Officer Joseph Abboud was featured as the cover story of the most recent edition of the The Georgetowner.
A year ago, he opened men’s specialty shopping store Streets of Georgetown on Wisconsin Avenue, which the article goes on to praise for its sophistication.
But The Georgetowner points out that the impact of Hickey Freeman is felt throughout the capital city. As Abboud explains in the article, “politicians, we say, they buy sincere suits.”Both candidates in the upcoming election understand the importance of wearing suits Made in America. Mitt Romney has a penchant for blue Hickey Freeman shirts, according to a salesman quoted in the article. President Obama, on the other hand, wore a tuxedo from our brother brand Hart Schaffner Marx to the inaugural ball in January 2009. The article continues to mention Abboud’s many achievements, including dressing the NBC sportscasters at the Olympic games this year.
But at the end of the day, Abboud is not focused on the celebrity aspect of his work. “The greatest accomplishment for me is to see someone who doesn’t know who I am buying something I designed and walking out of the store and being very happy about it.”
