Dressing for the holidays can be difficult, especially if you are traveling for the occasion. The perfect Thanksgiving outfit will strike a balance between looking put together for your family and feeling comfortable after long hours on the couch watching football.
Build your Thanksgiving Day outfit starting with a sportshirt and corduroy pants in warm, spicy fall colors, keeping you warm and feeling relaxed. To pull the outfit together and add polish, top it off with a sportcoat, like our Mahogany Collection Olive English Tweed Sportcoat, $1,495, available at www.hickeyfreeman.com.
Tweed is the fabric of the fall season that will also take you through the rest of the winter, making it a great investment this year. Donegal tweed was historically made in the County of Donegal in Ireland. Today there are many fabric mills around the world that produce the distinctive handwoven fabric, characterized by nubby flecks of color in the weave. The small flecks of color in the fabric are random and are considered perfect imperfections.
This season Hickey Freeman used an English Donegal tweed for this sportcoat, which has an olive base with and explosion of color. It is part of our Best of Britian collection, which “couples the United Kingdom’s finest wollens with America’s finest tailoring,” Hickey Freeman President Mike Cohen said. Added details like hacking ticket pockets and a notch lapel make this a statement coat that can be kept casual or formal.
To keep this look casual, pair the sportcoat with a pair of our tan corduroy pants and a plaid shirt. When putting an outfit together with a plaid shirt, make sure the plaid pattern is done in a more muted color palette, shown in the image above. This helps the pattern blend better with the rest of your outfit and prevents it from clashing with the fabric of your jacket.
For the finishing touch on your perfect casual Thanksgiving look, add a great sock (like our Fashion Tonal Stripe Socks, $30, available at www.hickeyfreeman.com) under a chukka boot or a tassel loafer. We recommend the Mark McNairy Loden Suede Tassel Loafer, $525, or the Mark McNairy Snuff Suede Chukka Boot, $348.
