On Friday, we outfitted the winner of the NBC Sport’s Sunday Night Football in America Follow The Ball Contest (well, that’s a mouthful!) at the Hickey Freeman store.
Steve and his wife, Katie, were flown in from Tampa, Florida by NBC Sports to visit 30 Rock where Steve would hand off the Sunday Night Football, which signed by every Sunday night football “Player of the Game” this season.
As part of his prize, Steve also won a Hickey Freeman suit, dress shirt and tie (although we liked him so much, our store manager ended up giving him two ties).
As the official outfitter of NBC Sport’s SNF, we were happy to make Steve’s long weekend in NYC even better than he expected.
Katie couldn’t help tearing up when she saw Steve in the first Hickey Freeman suit he tried on at our Madison Avenue store. She’s used to seeing Steve in his army uniform, where he’s served for 22 years. Often, when he is deployed, Katie’s left at home alone to raise their five children. This couple certainly deserved a vacation.
At one point, Katie was not sure she would ever see her husband walk again. He suffered an injury in combat that paralyzed him from the waist down. Luckily, when spinal swelling went down, he healed and gained full motor control again.
Steve tried on suit after suit, finally deciding on a lightweight (for the warm Florida weather) lighter charcoal suit, a pale gray plaid dress shirt and two charcoal ties.
The couple had plans to check out Little Italy for dinner, then return to their hotel. On Saturday, they visited the set of SNF, met the talent, and Steve handed off the football.
We know firsthand how incredible it is to watch the SNF filming and tour the control room at NBC.
We were also lucky enough to accompany NBC Sports onto the field at the Jets vs. Patriots game on Thanksgiving Day, where we watched the sportscasters Dan Patrick, Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison filming in their Hickey Freeman suits.
A few weeks ago, we toured the set of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon after dropping off some clothes for Mr. Patrick to wear during his segment on the show.
NBC also brought one of our stylists with them for the London Olympics, as we also dressed all the sportscasters there. We got some great behind the scenes look at the filming of the Olympics.
